Finale of the inaugural Porto Montenegro Polo in the port

The Porto Montenegro polo spectacle marked a new level of entertainment on the events scene for summer 2019, not only for the town of Tivat, but for the whole of the Montenegrin Riviera. Scores of international visitors joined the local Tivat crowd to enjoy this lifestyle-sporting event at the pop-up polo field at the new Porto Montenegro Arena venue.

The Porto Montenegro team defeated Global Citizen with a score of 9:7, while teams Boadicea and Universal Capital Bank concluded their participation in the tournament with a score of 5:3 in the semi-finals.

Representing Porto Montenegro were Charlie Woolbridge, multiple winner of Polo in the Park and Snow Polo St. Moritz, alongside James McCarthy and Jamie Morrison. “I’m amazed by the event concept and the Porto Montenegro marina – it’s the perfect backdrop for such an incredible event and the organisation was second to none. I look forward to being part of the team next year”, comments Woolbridge.

One of the most prominent representatives of world polo, Maharaja Savai Padmanabh Singh (Pacho) of Jaipur, did not hide his enthusiasm for the Porto Montenegro development and the beauty of Montenegro. Pacho had planned to visit Porto Montenegro at some point, though the tournament happened to bring him to Montenegro sooner than anticipated.

The event organised by the Global Citizen Forum was one of the key social and sporting events of the summer, combining world-class sport with a beautiful setting and a glimpse of some of the most exclusive yachts in the world.

“Porto Montenegro has certainly broken a record when it comes to the complexity of the event organisation for Polo in the Port – the lawn maintenance team worked hard for almost a year to ensure the new Arena was in place and fit for use in time for the event, and over one hundred team members were involved in the execution of the event, from Porto Montenegro, to Global Citizen and Sportgate. Part of the logistics also involved importing 52 horses to Montenegro, worth over a staggering 17.7 Euros”, remarks Senior Marketing and PR Manager at Porto Montenegro, Danilo Kalezic.

Partners of the first ever Porto Montenegro polo tournament were Arton Capital, Regent Porto Montenegro, Universal Capital Bank, Voli Motors, Plantaze, Azimut Yachts, Beluga, La Martina, Boadicea the Victorius and Sunreef Yachts, who joined forces to mark this special inaugural event on the Montenegrin Riviera.
